A native of Derbyshire, Margaret Wakeford studied piano at the Royal Academy of Music with George Rogers and accompaniment with John Streets, eventually acting as an official accompanist. After moving north to Glasgow under the tutelage of Lawrence Glover she gained a Scottish Arts Council Award to study with Gordon Green in London. Since then her musical career involved a number of years working for the BBC which included solo recitals, accompaniment, chamber music and orchestral pianist with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra; combined with this was an extended period on the keyboard staff at RCS where she taught in both senior and junior academies, and also at the City of Edinburgh Music School.
Now based in Edinburgh, Margaret is in regular demand as teacher, accompanist, lecture-recitalist and adjudicator as well as being on the staff at St. Mary's Music School where she is piano tutor, accompanist, chamber music coach and director of performance classes.
